Like to alpha dogs fighting over a scrap. Just let this go. So far it has done nothing to shining any real light on the subject, we're way off topic, and apparently, all thats happening is bruses to egos.
Give me bone! lol
But the "agruement" did bring up the possiblity of a speed limiter on the 06 models and up. One of the sites Xl7 linked to said that it was governed, and I don't know how strong drive by wire is, but if the top speed is 112, it doesn't seem safe to take the car faster. So it is worth looking into.
XL7Limited - I was trying to find an offical top speed for the stock 2005 Reno and since you said that Car and Driver do top speed test I went there first. They had an article on the 2005 Reno with review and have detail specs as well as various times and speeds for various tests. They got the car to 110 MPH, but next to it it says that it is drag limited, and I could not find how long the drag strip was, nor do I know what that means as I never ran accross it. Heres the link to the page with the info.
Edit:
I found a review for the 2006 Forenza wagon. And from the tests the top speed (again it had the drag limited) had two different speeds posted. One was 111 MPH and the other 114MPH. Link:
Drag limited seems more likely due to the way the engines set up, the fact that its the wagon, andmaybe (though not fully sure about this) the fact that they where on the A/T. Also, we will all tell youhow the engine perks up when you remove some of its strangle holds
yea your right..
ok Im done with this topic. I may even lock it

Drag limited means the engine stops pulling. That means it will go no faster. It was not limited artifically with an electronic limiter. BUT the C&D test link that I posted says the 5 speed is limited to 112. In that C&D article it says 110 drag limited..h,mmm.,, more confusion....

Nahh...dont lock the thread...there are other convos going on somewhere in the mess. lol.
I wouldnt trust any reveiws too much as far as top speed goes. I trust them if they say its governed just not drag limited, there is so many other factors. How long they did it, wind, climate, weather, ect. Theres been times I couldnt get my car past 120mph since I've hit 137... one time I can remember it was like 110+ degrees, windy, and about twice the elevation of where I usually drive.
How the heck is a cousin to us? Me thinks to do some research on this one.
The engine is in the same family for the 2003-2004 model year. That's the new engine I recently picked up for my Lanos project. The Catera (also a Daewoo engine) was replaced by the CTS.
Note the similarity in engine, though it's .2L bigger
well.. The original OP has an 06 so can we at least agree that the drive by wire 06 and 07's hs the 112 speed limiter..? The rest of this I will dig deeper..
aud racing... Are you a EIT or a PE.. Im a PE and if you would like Ill post my license # in pm to you..
I have more training and practical experience that you could imagine.
How many years do you have under your belt ????
No need, I am however, a PE. I've been in the automotive industry for 9 years and in engineering pratice for 6. I'm sure you have lot's of taining (never met an under-trained engineer... ever), it's just specifics that get people sometimes. I have more degrees than I like to admit to but it doesn't mean much without practical experience. In the state of TN, I have my license in mechanical, as well as materials and metallurgy (due to previous work with Oak Ridge National Laboratory), where they are listed as accepted forms of engineering. In VA, I also have my ME license.

I see the similarity between the two, but it looks nothing like our engine tho. But wouldn't both of those engines be considered EcoTecs and not E-Tec like our engine? Which would make them our grand kids as it is a newer engine unlike ours. lol

RRRRRRRNT - Wrong... these are indeed etecs like the Daewoos. The Catera engine is the C30XE... the only XE engine to make it to this side of the pond. The LA3 (CTS engine) was a modified version of the c30XE to fix an issue with teh timing belt from breaking (a severe downfall of the woos off all generations).
