ok heres what i think not trying to be mean: inless your a professional painter and have the facilities to clean the rims (burn off old pain and grease) before prep and paint, also a spray gun there never going to look great. also the paint wont hold up as well. your prob not going to be abble to get a nice even coat without that fuzzy overspray look, especially out of a can. and the clear coat wich you will need is just going to show the imperfections even more. now if you insist on doing it yourself i would suggest cleaning and degreasing the rims thoroughy, then let dry compleatly. possibly a primer coat so the pain sticks well. one coat of paint (light coats are way better than heavy) , sand. slowly build up the paint and sand lightly with a very fine sandpaper after each coat is dry. on the final coat dont sand instead go over with a light steal wool just to ware down any inconsistencies (shiny spots or fuzzy overspray) in the finish. then clearcoat let dry, buff with stealwool to even the finish. maby 2 clearcoats then final. for the final clearcoat just do a light coating or dusting to even the finish. let dry. polish. when you take them in to be mounted make sure they grease the hell out of the lip so as little paint as posible gets scratched. very important, take your time. hope this helps. maby someone else might have something to add or a different method. id really like to see some pics when your done to see how they come out. let us know how you decide to paint them.
