Yeah, if your key has a chip in it, you have to buy a bypass module, which is a little box that tricks your car into thinking there is a key in the ignition. Not all model cars with Key-chips can use these though. Others have to buy a bypass box that you hide behind your dash, and you actually have to give up one of your spare keys and insert it in the box so that your car, again, will think that the key in the module is actually in your ignition, and will allow it to remote start.

Which also negates the security of a chip-key....

The whole idea of a chip in the key is to make sure the car doesn't get started with a copy key. You're only supposed to be able to get extra keys from a dealer if they have a chip in em.

Bypass the chip for a remote start, and you open up the ability for a non-chip key (read: copy) to be able to start it. Totally negates the need for the chip in the first place.

I duno about that. The car will shut off unless you have an appropriate key in the ignition. the module just allows the car to start. if you press the brake or try to shift the car into gear without another key in the ignition, it will shut down. The sensor in the actual ignition is still there and must accept the chip-key in the ignition before it will actually allow the car to move. Ive never tried this, but surely the manufacturers of these things thought about that before hand...i hope.

I'll have to get a non chipped copy made and try it out and see.

Yeah, a non-chip copy SHOULD work. If there's a bypass for the chip, then you'd think one wasn't necessary ;-) As well, if there's a chip key wired in under the dash, then it's not going to be needed in the ignition.

It's going to be one or the other. If it's bypassed, it's not needed on the key.

LMAO... Y'all are going way too far into this... Dude just go to Best Buys or Circuit City and get a freaking alarm put on... It won't void your warranty... I got mine for $200 install included... It has keyless entry and all the bells and whistles... I haven't had any problems with it... Good luck..

a resonable replay. I had Best buy install my radio on my old Tercell. They laughed at this beat up '85, but they did a good job. Alittle to oriented on making it factory first though, due to it being a tetness shot in the making.
