Question Help! Brake doesn't disengage cruise control

I started having a new problem yesterday. I was running on cruise and decided to slow down so I didn't run into the car ahead. I tapped the brake and SURPRISE!... nothing. I ended up hitting the clutch and the cruise finally disengaged. Any ideas? It was working fine the day before. I am not sure where the switch is on the brakes that turns off the cruise, I assume it's located on the pedal somewhere. Is it the same one that handles the brake lights? Any info would be appreciated.

my car dosn't have cruise, but several vans i drive at work do and my wifes van dose as well and they all have a cancel button with the cruise on/off accel and decell buttons. chevy ford, international coach (a bus) and blue bird (another bus) all have the same lay out for the cruise controls, if your breaks dont work try that, that way you can see if the control is recieving a stop signel or if just one switch is acting up. i would find a empty parking lot and try it a slow speeds. its reasons like that i don't use cruise on the buses.

Have someone check your brake light while you push the pedal. The same switch is used for both. Most likely misadjusted, or will need to be replaced.

As for turning it off in emergency, clutch is good, but you can also turn the whole unit off by using the large push button on the side. Instant effect, without the engine surge cause by going neutral.

Default Got Another Cruise Control/Brake Switch Problem

Well, you were right. It turned out my brake lights weren't working either. I replaced the switch and now the brake lights are fine. BUT, now the cruise won't even turn on. I saw a post that said when they swapped out their brake light switch their cruise also stopped working. I have tried desperately to find this post again but no luck. Any ideas on how to get the cruise working again?

Thanks!
