Yeah, my Suzuki just hit 53k miles. I believe that I have had the usual problems as everyone else. At 33k the interior driver's side door Handel snapped off in my wifes hand. At 24K the gas cap would no longer tighten. I had a problem with my headlights not functioning. Took it to the dealer where it spent two days and they could not find the problem. When I returned to pick up the car the dealer said that to find the problem it wouldn't be under warranty. Checked out this forum and found out what to look for and fixed it myself. Two months later the vehicle was recalled for timing belt and the headlights.
A continuous problem that I have with the vehicle is the airbag light. It would suddenly come on for no reason. I would take it back to the dealer where they would check out the car, find no problems then reset it all for the bargain price of $132.00. This problem would present itself twice a year and was pretty annoying. I finally broke down and pulled the airbag crash module and copied the EEPROM.Now when the light comes on I re-flash it and all is well till the next time.
Currently I'm experiencing two problems: The transmission sometimes fails to shift or is slow at shifting. it's been happening for 20K miles or so. I would take it back to the dealer but everyone knows how that is going to go.
The second problem I have is that their's a rattle coming from the exhaust. I think it's the catalyst cover. I have to go to muffler shop to see what it could be.
The rims are rusted and the hubcaps are peeling. But other then that the car been good to us.
the slow or trouble shifting is you probably just the reprograming/ under warenty. the exhaust rattle is probably just a loose heat sheild, very common problem.
Hi Folks, New to this forum. Coupla quick questions.
Just bought an 05 Forenza. 195k for mileage. All highway as far as I can tell. Barely any wear on on any of the pedal rubbers ( manual trans). Valve train inspection shows no sludge, so I am assuming good oil change habits of previous owner. Car is quiet and tight and everything works. Actually rides like new!! No oil leaks. Immaculate interior. I replaced rotors and pads right away as they were shot. Also redid parking brake shoes and hardware as they were also shot. I do all my own auto maintenance and was wondering if I would need a manual to change timing belt, water pump and tensioner, or is the process similar to most OHC engines? Some of the clips for the door mouldings have broken, are these available or do they come with the mouldings? Anyways, as far as I can tell, there is many more miles left in this car.
I am over 60,000mi and it is an '06. We have had to fix door handles of course (recall) which also then again broke! I am wondering if they actually replaced them all or what. But anyway I also have some sort of rear suspension thing going on right now. You hit a bump and you grind into your tire. NOt good. But I think it is covered under warranty. Paint chipping off exterior door handle, drivers side. ummm... and occasionally my driver seat belt just undoes it self. but it doesn't happen often. Not sure on that one. Guess I am not that concerned! So, all and all it has been a pretty good car.
I just hit 56000 miles and have replaced a sensor in the transmission (didnt fix anything) and the stock rims were squares when I bought it. I took it to a shop a couple weeks ago for a "fix-it" list. Came up with about $1000 worth of work, including camshaft and crankshaft sprokets, fuel vapor seperator, brakes, timing and serpentine belt, shocks and suspension peices, and a couple other small things.
when the sensor was replaced on the transmission, suzuki told me they replaced all the gaskets and everything in the motor that they shop is telling me has never been replaced, I trust the shop over the dealership and am kinda annoyed that I was told something had been done and now I have to pay for it to get fixed.
also my airbag light just came on and my check engine light comes on, when it feels like it, and then shut its self back off again.

the timing belt is a cast iron bitch to do as you have to take off an engine mount to get the cover off and getting the thing back on is hard. it would be easer if the tensioner was a spring stlye instead of the cam style. i did mine in an afternoon with basic tools, it just was a pain to get to and back on. its not difficult to figure out, i had no manual to work with. the water pump is at the bottom front of the engine and looks stright forward to get to and replace.
My Forenza had 106900 before I finally replaced the timing belt (using a full kit), water pump, and serpentine belt. I have had no problems with the car up until recently, but it is not a major problem, just a hassle until I can get to the root cause (I will post that problem on another thread).
Actually, compared to the timing belt job I had to do on my 1995 Dodge Neon, the it was way easier. The hardest thing I had to figure out on the Forenza was how to get the serpetine belt off because the Service Manual does not detail how to "release" the tension from the automatic tensioner, so I started off by just cutting the darn thing off and then figured it out so that I could put it back on. After that, the removal of the front motor mount was not a big issue, because there is a lower strut that keeps the thing from falling in the floor while you do the work.
I love the little car. The only things I dislike are extremely minor. 1) the center console cover. If the little plastic clip breaks, you have to buy the whole dadgum thing and it is $50. 2) those stupid front and rear tweeters in the door. They constantly go out and are practically useless.
I'm a little over 50,000 miles and I've only replaced the solenoid in the gear shift because the car refused to move from park without sticking some thing in the shift lock release
my 2004 4renza now has 117k miles on it no problems really i think my clutch is going out cuz when itz cold and say im n 3rd i accelerate and rpm goes up 1000 but doesn't really take the car with the engine speed then i let off and then the engine returns to speed with the transmission uuno what do u guys think?
