Default Alarm goes off for no reason.

i have a 2004 optra warranty ran out a few thousand KMS ago.
I'll park my car and it sits in plain view from the window in the house, the alarm goes off for apparently no reason, car is still locked and nothing seems to be wrong. Happened twice last night.

has anyone else had the alarm go off without reason?

I've considered putting a starter/alarm system on as a replacement for the junky factory one but getting a new set of keys from the dealer has deterred me from doing this. I wouldn't want the extra weight of the big bulky key plus the extra aftermarket one.

This would solve alot of the problems I'm having with the factory alarm and keyless entry. The remote range absolutely sucks $(&. Sometimes it won't work unless I"m a foot away form the driver's door.

May sound strange but I had a vw jetta and it kept going off for no reason, it was because the of the battery going low but not low enough to not be able to start.. Well any way I guess the alarm was wired into the battery some how and I ended up having to remove the door panel and cut the alarm because even with a new battery if my batter ever did go dead I couldnt shut it off because my key didnt work for the door and there was no key pad.. Maybe check the battery, I doubt its anything like the germans stupid car but ya.. Very strange, but I guess its the alarms way of not letting someone unhook the battery to get in the car with out triggering the alarm.......

Silly question, but could it be noise related, like some one with a bass or low pitched muffler

Some easy things to look for would be:

-Defective/misadjusted hood switch. Is the hood really closed the full way?
-Door switches, but I thinks the dome light would come on too at the same time.
-I would also check the trunk switch and make sure it is fully closed.

There's no motion/shock detector on that factory alarm, but it will sound if you try to start the car (with a key, not remotely) while the car is protected.

If it is the factory alarm check into a new hood switch (open hood rubber thing on driver side near windshield washer reservoir). Had one doing that and our hotline said just change the switch. Most likely cause. Not too hard to change nor expensive.
