Hi, Guys, I just got my new 06 Forenza 2 months ago and I loved this car except that something is unusual with the idle speed. When I start the engine first time everyday, the idle speed will "jump" somehow like 1500-1000-1500-900 and this jumping will last for about 30 seconds. Has anybody else here met simillar situations? What might be the cause? Any suggestions?

It could be either obstructed airflow (check filter) or clogged injectors.

I know you said "new", but was the car *brand new* when you got it? Or where there some miles on it?

You might want to try and reset the ECU. The how-to is in the manual I believe. If not, it's been posted here on the forums a couple times.

Oh and does it do the same when the engine is warm?

Also, the 06's have an electronic throttle, so there might be something going on with that. And that would mean a trip in for service.

My car is brand new. The idle speed is very fine when the engine is warm. And the idle speed situation only happens at the first start everyday. Anyway, thanks for suggestions.

If it's only on first start and it's a brand new car, I would first try resetting the ECU. If that doesn't do it, go right to service. They'll probably ask you to leave it overnight, or at least until the engine is cold enough for it to happen again..

Good Luck!

Yeah, it's perfectly normal for the car to idle a little high (1000-1500) on first start up. It's the ECU warming up the engine a little.

But to fluctuate up, down and up again, there's something wrong with that picture.

happens to mine when cold, but im used to it mostly because my last car did the same, i always just thought it was the car getting itself up to temp. also my fiance's new yaris does the same for a couple of seconds when first start up. my question is does it also do this when you come to a stop with the a/c on?

Oh, no. This only happens at the first start. After the first start the engine works really fine.
