Ambient temp outside was only about 60 deg. Here are some pics of how I got the Ac from 40 deg to about 34 deg. (vent temp). I was hoping for 5 deg so this works.

Part list.
ACE self adhesive insulating pipe wrap. -40deg up +180deg.
(I looked at three diff. brands this brand was fire retardant and was pretty close in temp. ratings.)
Zip Ties
(I went with 8" because they are a little easier to work with in tight areas 4" can be hard to work with.)
2- hose clamps for 3/4-1" (I went with 1"stainless steel)
Aluminum Tape

Removal of air cleaner box is a must if its stock. 10mm bolt and 12mm bolt and clamp at top.

Wiping the pipe clean first is a very important part if you want the wrap to stick at all.

I used short pieces of pipe wrap 5-6" and wrapped the bottom half of the tube and then went over the top and wrapped the top half of the tube (as shown in one of the pics). The pipe wrap is pretty sticky which helps hold it in place but wouldn't last very long once you started to drive.

I wrapped over the pipe wrap with the aluminum tape but the tape I wrapped the other way around the pipe. To get the tape to stick good atleast a wrap and a half works best. I overlapped these wraps atleast 1/4 of the width of the tape. The aluminum tape actually gets pretty firm once you mash the crinkled parts down so don't worry if it gets a little crinkled there is no way around it. One some of the end pieces I placed a tie wrap just for the added security to make sure it stays on.

The part down next to the exhaust I did last because the car had to cool down. Be careful working around the exhaust it can easily burn you.--Safety warning for this job

I started out by single wrapping this piece and then taped it and then added another wrap of insulation and put the clamps on. I went with clamps down here instead of tie wraps because of how close it is to the exhaust.

I set the controls and opened all the upper vents. The vent with the thermostat isn't the only one open. I also had the windows down and know that recirc. doesn't do any good like that but I was wanting the fan speed of recirc. for the temp.

Ya I really didn't need to do this right now either but I didn't think anyone was happy with the temp. from the AC. So I thought I'd come up with a fix. This car has a lot of metal ac pipe that isn't covered with anything and the cold just goes thru the pipe.

More insulation could be added I suppose. I know under the airbox the space is limited though.

I added text to the pics. for clarification.

Good luck all.

Just had a thought. Although it might cost a little more..

You think maybe a double walled hose would work even better? Similar to the cooling system hoses. Which is what I wound up using for the valve cover vent when I did my intake.

I think if I got a long enough piece (6 feet worth maybe?) and sliced it down the middle, it would wrap over the A/C lines nicely. The cost might be upwards of $50-$75, but I still have to wonder if that would insulate even better?

I may try this with my Elantra! Not sure if it needs it or not since I bought right at the end of the hot summer.

Total length of pipe that I covered was about 4-5 feet I guess. I have a lot of that insulation left and might cover the visable areas one more time to see if it helps even more.

There are a few tight bends that might be hard to keep that stiff hoses on (if I'm thinking of the same hose) and the double wall is for the pressure/heat I believe not the insulation factor but you can give it a try. Anything is better then open pipe in the air especially that much pipe. Everything for this project was about $15.

For those putting the project off until spring/summer might want to locate a store with the insulation you want to use. In my area the stores don't carry much insulation products past spring time and if they do there isn't a selection.

Seperate subject
One other thought on the breather hose.
If cold denser air means more hp. then why add a cold air intake to get more cold air and then vent the hot air from inside the engine back into the intake. The other thing that air from the valve cover brings with it is contaminants that surely don't add horsepower to the engine. You might look into adding a breather instead.

Your local auto parts house probably has a diffrent brand that would probably work.

used the same materials, but rapped the hell out of the hoses from the compressor to the firewall, and even extra thick around the areas close to the headers. such a difference. about ten degrees cooler.

So when are those aliens coming? lol.

I don't know how hard nor how difficult it would be to get better tubing and installing it. Becuase this may also help our not so good a/c units.
