Default Clutch Pedal hard to press down

The other day I noticed that on my 1992 Geo Tracker the clutch pedal seemed difficult to press in and was making a loud squeeking noise. About 2-1/2 years ago I had replaced both the clutch and the clutch cable. So I first took a look under the dash to see if anything was obstructing it. Everything looked in order so I then checked under the vehicle. I did notice the boot by the release arm was not sitting on the cable right. I though maybe dirty got in it so I proceeded to spray the cable with some of my motorcycle throttle cable lub I had sitting in the garage and placed the boot back in its appropriate position. Then I tried to work the lub in by repeatitively pushing down on the clutch pedal. At this point nothing has changed it is still hard to press down & still squeeks. It shifts fine but it is annoying. I feel like Im fighting the pedal. Does anyone have any suggestions?
