Default Short Shifter?

I just purchased my '05 Forenza wagon... so stoked! But the only thing that's bugging me is the throws are so long shifting... that the first thing I would like to do is get a short shifter. Has anyone installed one yet? Or heard anything good about one? Also, I'm going badgeless and having a hard time finding a replacement grille. Any ideas?

Talk to Kinkyllama, I think he still has them.

Nice, another 05 wagon - welcome.

OK, the short shifter is a top-notch addition to the car. I can't imagine mine without it. It's well worth the investment.

As far as the grill, I'm not sure much is out there. There is a grill from the Korean Daewoo that will fit our cars, has no logo in the middle, and has chrome trim around all three openings, but it's hard to get your hands on one. They have to be sourced from Korea. I'd personally love to get one - maybe we can get enough 04-05 owners interested and find a contact who can do business in Korea.

There is a billet grille available from mrgrille.com for $143. Also gives inserts for the lower openings. May or may not be your style.

Welcome and good luck!

Thanks! I love my wagon. I've wanted one for years. As far as your short shifter goes... where did you get it? How much?

I got mine from KinkyLlama, a moderator here on the site. His profile probably has links to go to. Don't remember the price exactly.

You also need a new shift knob when adding the short shifter -- it has to be a 'lift reverse" type, and they're not terribly common in the U.S. (you're not going to walk into Autozone and find one). You can find some made by Isotta on E-bay, or you can google a bit. Here's some links to overseas suppliers, but this can be pricey.

You can re-use your stock shift boot with these. You'll need a black zip tie or something similar to tighten the top, and you're good to go.

I PM'ed Danny. He doesn't have any left and is not sure if he'll get some back in. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought. Ha ha ha. I guess I'll move on to the next project.

Kinky, do you need the specific part to produce the short shifters, or can you use take-off stock Forenza shifters? If so, I've got mine sitting around, and I'm sure a few others do too. The lift handle is different, maybe that's the issue. Is there a way to recycle this part and get some shortened shifters out there for people?

Yes actually, but I need to look into getting the other peice made first before I bother everyone with that. It'll be a little awhile, funds are tight right now.

I'm developing a quick shifter that is quite a bit different than the one Danny does.basically you can use one or the other to get about 30% shorter shifts or use both for even shorter throughs.

my kit is still in the works (trying to get some bushings made) but should be available in a moth or so. my kit will run around $80 + shipping.
