Default shafts...lol

in a recent post of existence(the trans fluid refill thread), it made me think about the drive shafts...how hard would it be to get carbon shafts? i know that garrett and audacity(forgot his real name) have access to CF, but i dont know what kind of limitations they have...the lighter and stronger shafts would prove to gain some acceleration, but i'm more interested in the strength for drag racing. as of now, the tires will break loose if theres too much torque at launch, but if i had more grip with slicks on a drag strip, then i'd probably push enough torque with my engine to start worrying...that might not be till i get my DAE engine installed and have a head/cams/TB, but i like to think ahead

lol. Carbon as in carbon fibre shafts? I'm not sure if ppl use that for driveshafts. I know you can have custom axles made to handle more power, but I really don't know if CF is a good idea for that.

Your looking at I think around $800 to have drive shafts made to handle 300ft.lbs for any type of racing and they weight the same or slightly more than factory. I think you even have to provide them with OE shafts.

Your going n/a right? Well you will most likely be making a little more hp than tq so you maybe okay. I'll let you know, I think I'll put some pretty big abuse on mine with 235mm R-compounds on the track. I'll be running 235mm 200tread competition tires untill I get around to buying R compounds. I will be doing some drag racing as well.

i know that i should be pushing much higher HP than torque, but i'd rather be safe and have the entire drivetrain strengthened than have something go out due to excessive torque

What power levels did you have in mind again?

I think by the time your project gets to that point exsistence or I will have found out if they'd hold up. Well hopefully I will, if I don't have a turbo on soon I'm going to go crazy

i think the new engine will be around 200 hp. maybe a little more...so less than 200 tq right away, but i eventually want to do cams, head, intake mani, piggy back and throttle body, which altogether could amount to another 50 hp or more. i know it wont be the numbers that you guys will be pushing, but you never know...and it'd be cool to have just to say that i have it done

Hey exist are you pretty hard on your drive shafts when drag racing or do you try to be easy on them?

Well I try to go easy on the transmission, which in turn means easy on the driveshafts as well. I never really launch or give hard acceleration in tight corners or turns.

Well you should and lemme know how it goes

I'll post on daewootech and see if anyone has a educated idea. The drive shafts from our over seas family should be very similiar too.

Which reminds me, you can import upgraded drive shafts that SHOULD work. I paid like $1,100 for some that could rally handle like 500whp or something. The driver side one broke within 20 miles from normal street driving...not sure if it didn't fit well or if the shop installed it wrong. I didn't bother looking into it cause the shop wasn't going to tell me anything and I wouldn't wanna get on there bad side due to how popular they are in the Arizona community. My right side axles still in and working though.
