Where to get aftermarket GV gear in AUSTRALIA?

So I have had my 2006 GV for a couple of months now and started to save to do some mods, who knows where to get the right stuff from? I want to lift it, put bash plates underneath and better A/T tyres on her. I need a good tow bar and maybe a winch bullbar or winch in standard bumper bar. Here are some links I found;
Blingbitz - Grand Vitara Parts (http://blingbitzcomau.melbourneitwebsites.com/cat/index.cgi/shopfront/view_by_category?category_id=4451)
New Grand Vitara - Outdoor Auto (http://outdoorauto4x4.com/b/30292/1/new-grand-vitara.html)

Anyone got any others places I can check out?
I live in sunny QLD on the Gold Coast

My GV is the Stocko Black 1 in the photos on the right, here are some other GVs with winch's in the bumpers & 1 black 1 with a steel bumper with winch
Cool hey!!

Hi everyone!

I have a factory OEM stereo for sale that came out of my 2008 Grand Vitara. My GV has only 8,000 kms on it so the stereo is practically new! The reason I am selling is because I put in an aftermarket stereo so I have no use for this one anymore. If you have any questions e-mail me. You can also give me your best offer...

Thank you,
Denis

I just purchased a recovery kit from tgatrading off ebay seems like good kit and was priced alot better than other kits i seen (67$ with postage i got mine for)
Comes with towball shackle which will be handy when i get my hitch.
TGA Trading (http://www.tgatrading.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=58&Itemid=29)

Anyways i searched the forums and found a very old thread on the recovery points but wanted to get an updated view from GV owners on the matter. Are they able to handle the pull/snatch situations. (thats if anyone has had to be recovered that is :P)
Then again has anyone used them to recover another vehicle?

Also what sort of gear do people have in their kits and find invaluable.

Geolandar A/T-S

I was considering installing Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tires on my '08 GV. Does anyone have experience with them?

They seem to be a good combination of highway/offroad/snow tire. The stock size is 225/65-R17. I was considering going one size bigger, 235/65-R17. I know the speedometer would be off about 1.8%, which should put it right on since it currently reads fast. The other issue I had was the 235 tire has a higher load rating which may make it a stiffer tire and which may increase road noise and provide a rougher ride (which I don't want).

Opinions?

Hey all just wanted to forward the Gem of a site I just found. I have been searching high and low in the U.S. for a nice looking Grill guard or bull bar with some skid tubes. All I found until the other day was from Romik and I am not about to pay $500 for a plain bent chrome bar. At this site for a full Grill Guard (powder coat) with the skid tubes it would cost me about $650 to have it all shipped to my door including the tax. Wohoo finally something that looks nice and has function for my 2G GV. Here is the site:
Auto Seattle - Tal & Hadas grille guards, bull bars, A-bars, truck & suv accessories (http://www.autoseattle.com/tal_and_hadas.htm)

Alloy Wheels Frozen to Hubs

I went to mount my winter rims/tires the other day, and found the summer set were bonded to the hubs. This happens because the rims are alloy and the hubs are steel, so there's an electro-chemical reaction going on.

When I last changed them, I wondered if I should do something about the evident corrosion, but decided not to, and didn't research it. I should have, rather than assume you shouldn't lubricate the mating surfaces.

Jacking it up, loosening the lug nuts and kicking the tires worked ok for three wheels, but the fourth required a day's soaking with penetrating oil, and some very hard kicks. I did this facing away from the wheel and kicking backwards. This reduces the chances of damaging the car or your leg and foot.

Some research on the Internet revealed this is a very common problem on all makes. There are various more violent means described for loosening the wheels.

Solutions are suggested, usually including cleaning off the mating surfaces and treating them with grease, silicone grease, or anti-seize compound. It requires a powered wire brush or sanding disc to clean them properly. I used brass polish and very fine wet sandpaper, but was unable to get all the corrosion off by hand. I applied a layer of dielectric silicone grease, and we'll see how they are on the next rotation.

As for rotations, directional tires like my DMZ-3's can't be moved from one side to the other unless you have them remounted on the rims. So for now, I just exchanged the fronts to the same sides on the back. I label my winter and summer rim sets so I know which position they came off of. The non-directional oem tires/rims can still be rotated front-to-back and side-to-side.

My 2nd hand vitara came with 17" alloys....trye size 225/65/17, what size will my spare tyre be, is the spare wheel cover only made for standard 16" wheels?

What happens if I get a puncture, can I through on the 16" wheel until I reach a garage?

Nokian WR G2

Got myself a set of Nokian WR G2 for the winter on original 16" steel rims. I decided that "all-weather" tires would be better for me rather then the pure winter Hakkas. 90% of the time the roads in Toronto are plowed and covered with salt rather then ice.

I tested them today in various situations. So I just wanna give a quick review.

Noise level is a bit higher then the stock Dunlops have, but it's not bad at all. You don't really notice that change unless you are trying to.

Ride is smooth, but not soft or spongy. Going from 18" to 16" rims, I was expecting softer ride, but no. Gives a good road feel.

Handling is just good. It's nothing exceptionally great or bad. Steering response is a bit "softer", but I don't know whether it's due to the smaller rims or softer rubber. Under hard cornering they grip, and they don't understeer as much as stock Dunlops. But I guess they probably wear faster under hard cornering compared to regular summer all-seasons.

Looks - nothing special. No fancy thread pattern or cool side wall marking. If you don't know the Nokian brand you would think it's some cheap rubber from canadian tire.

Yet to see how they perform in rain and snow.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase.

Pictures are coming up later.

Just wanna also mention the place I bought the tires from. I got really good service from the guy. For example, he installed the balancing weight on the inside of the rim, rather then on the rim lip as it's usually done, to keep the clean looks. Top quality service. If you looking for the tires in Toronto area check this place out:

2007 GV Radio Mode Changes

I have a 2007 GV, and I'm using the radio cable for auxiliary audio input (the cable purchased through the recommendation of this board). I've been using it for well over a year and it's working wonderfully! Lately, I'm experiencing a random change of the radio mode. As I'm driving, my stereo will change from auxiliary to FM. The first few times that it happened, I just assumed that I accidentally hit the mode button on the steering wheel. As I became more aware of it, I KNOW that I'm not touching the button, and that the mode is changing by itself. The last time I drove, it changed about 4 times in about 2 minutes. At first I thought that there may be some type of weird radio frequency in the areas of my travel. I'm not sure if that's a bit far-fetched though. Has this happened to anyone else, and/or does anyone have any insight? I appreciate all responses.
