cv joint or control arm?????

I have a 2001 suzuki grand vitara. It has been making a popping sound when i make a hard turn, like backing into a parking space. The sound comes from the front driver side. I thought I would need to change the CV joint, but when I went to the parts place, they said it was the control arm, which is not cheap. Does anyone know anything about this? I dont want to go to a mechanic without a clue of what is wrong. Has anyone had a similar popping sound problem? I greatly appreciate any help or comments anyone can provide. Thanks.

Not sure if this has been asked or not. I have tried searching. Besides the factory jack points for the factory jack, what other locations would be safe for a floor jack. I would like to put mine on stands for brake work, tire rotations, and such, and wish to know what all locations are available for a floor jack.

Hi all,

I was searching the net looking for an answer to my question but no luck. I came across this forum and thought I might get help here.

I am planning to get my first ever Suzuki, a Grand Vitara. Went to the dealer today and checked it out. Its a 4 door top of the range V6 engine.

All sounds good but the tires :(

Stock size is 225/60/18 and I am planning to replace them with any All Terrain tires but can not find any make with this size.

Any ideas what I can do? Any advice on what tires are suitable for desert and mountain drive without compromising on on road drive quality?

Your feedback is much appreciate. Hopefully I can get an answer from your side by Sunday as I am going to submit my documents on that day and purchase it.

Regards,

 Hiye, 1st time using this site and I'm lovin it so far. I have a 03 GV1600 Grand Vitara and every now and again it wont idle. Every time I'm slowing down coming to traffic lights or round abouts the revs drop to 0 and she cuts outs out. She's still under warrenty (till Christmas) but the garage keep saying she's grand everytime I bring her for a check up. She starts up well at 2k revs but a few minutes later she starts dropping and I have to say.....it's very hard pushing the break, excellerator and clutch all at the same time. Maybe if I was a guy it would be easier  Anywho, The garage said they can't find the problem but I don't think they're looking very hard. They just said to disconnect the battery & connect it back up if it happens again (The usual...reboot). Does anyone have any advise or even some idea of what it could be? I was thinking maybe a vaccumn leak but i'm not very wise when it comes to engines. Please Help :)

My mom has 2004 Tracker ZR2 4x4 V6 Auto with 110K on the clock and she wants me to check it over and do any maintenance it may need.

As far as I know she has never done any thing to it other then oil changes, air filters, tires, brakes, and belts.

What all should be done to it as this point and are there any known problems I should look for?

Also when should the timing chain be replaced?

Thanks for helping a noob out!;)

Also sorry if this is in the wrong place. Please move if needed.

Search didn't show anything regarding this....

Has anyone done or looked into doing part of Calmini's (or similar) to lower the diff and a-arms, Old Man Emu spring spacers to get the springs down a bit further and source some struts with a bit more travel (or just stick with the strut spacers and the top end limitation). I just read that one user was looking at struts that would fit with about 1.5" more travel, he hasn't verified it yet.

I'm thinking you could get about 2-2.5"" with the diff drop and a-arm lowering, then another 2" with the spring spacers. I don't think the a-arm geometry would be too out-of-wack because the diff drop links combined with the longer springs (spacers or just longer springs sourced somewhere) would put the a-arm angles at the same as the Rocky-Road kit since they do NOT drop the diff.

Steering and toe would then likely be a problem but couldn't that be remedied fairly easy with longer tie rods and maybe a lowering of the steering mech.

I'm thinking total bolt-on and not a fab nightmare.

Let me know if I'm completely missing something obvious as I don't have my Suzuki yet. Had one years ago and am shopping for the right one now.
