I had a simular thing happen to my Toyota Surf and it turned out to be a bad battery terminal, it looked fine until i tried to undo it and discovered that it was so badly corroded that it fell apart as soon as I lifted it off, replaced it and bang up she fired! ... just a thought anyway.
