Default Looking for Grand Vitara

Hello all Brief intro. I have a VW Westfalia I am selling and planning to buy a GV. My planned use, 1- towing behind motorhome, so has to be towed 4-down. As I understand 4WD auto can be towed. I am new to this, and looking for threads covering, but just joined, could use help in navigating.

Maybe a lift kit, I like to do a little off-road around her and need extra clearance. Go on the dirt, gravel and forest road. Maybe camping, definitely fishing and photography.

Is there some sort of line between years when chassis changed? I heard something, but don't have clear understanding.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I live AT Old Faithful in Yellowstone.

Hi,

You need to purchase the 4 mode transfer case model. It has neutral (for flat towing), 4wd, 4wd lock, and 4wd low ratio lock.

I'd recommend a lift, some 225/75r16 all terrains and a transfer case skid plate. They're great wee cars and you'll surprise people. Traction control in a GV is one of the best around.

Have not yet even sat in one, likely to look at a 2000 today, I am now in Phoenix, AZ area. This one has the tow setup, hoping that indicates this. Will I know by the lever if this is the 4-mode I guess?

I suppose I could tell by a vin lookup?

The 2000 model will have a second lever to operate the transfer case. The 2005-on models have a dial, on the left below the temperature control for the climate system.
