Default 2008 XL7 rear lift hatch won't open

My 2008 XL7 rear lift gate has suddenly failed and now I can not get it open. The vehicle has 43,000 miles on it. I did check the #4 fuse and even replaced it even though it checked good but it still will not open. I have not tried to take the panels off but I have been looking for a repair manual. So far I have not found anything but owner's manuals. Is there a source for the shop/repair manual? Does it have part numbers? Do the rear hatch touch sensor and actuators have to be purchased from a dealer? What are the part numbers?

I have seen several threads on the internet about this problem. Is it a common problem and a poor design or is it not that common to have the problem?

I do miss the manual latches as the electronic doors and windows are not that great, especially when they fail!

Thank you.
