Default 07 XL7 speed indicator problem

The speed indicator display will go up in speed even though you are sitting still or a constant speed. Sometimes just 5 mph then sometimes it keeps climbing till it pegs out. Only way to reset it, is to turn key on and off at 5 mph decreases till it gets to zero. I am think it is the display because If it was the speed sensor, the cruse control and the odometer would not be working right either.
The car has 60,600 miles on it and is 2 hours away from closest Suzuki dealer.
Would this be cover under warranty?
Where and how much is a new display?
Does the display hold the mileage information?
How bad is to work on myself? Maybe a bad soldier connection.

Please Help.
