If the fluid is gross then the dealer might recommend it before the maintainence book. I don't see enough XL7s to know - I've only changed diff oil in one before lol! On the SX-4 the rear diff oil is pretty gross by 10k due to break in period. After you change it once it'll be fine for a long time afterwards.

What type of fluid can we use on the differentials?, there is no detail of the fluid in the manual.

We just use synthetic 75W90 GL5.

I don't know if synthetic is mandatory for the rear diff - but the transfer drive up front requires synthetic - although it is apparently lifetime fluid I've drained and filled it before.

I tried to do some research on the rear differential and apparently its a Getrag 660 and uses Hypoid fluid (extreme pressure or EP)because it has hypoidal gears.

I coudn't find the weight anywhere, thanks Jeff.

I think you would be well-advised to do this maintenance even if it is not in the schedule. Even though I'll bet Getrag did a better design job, the older model GV has a very weak drain plug magnet that looses effectiveness with just a light load of ferrous particles. Since you don't need the dealer stamp, do it yourself and save the money. Use that GL-5 75W-90 synthetic.

by any chance, someone knows the capacity of the rear diff for the 07 model so I know how many quarts I will buy?
