Default 2008 - fuel gauge reads empty

I know there was a post about this earlier but this is a tad different.

Car has just under 2500kms. Filled up the tank and about 30 minutes into a 3 hr drive the fuel gauge swung down to empty. The Fuel Range reading went blank and just showed ---km. When I start the car the full cluster does the start up sweep but when all other gauges go to normal the fuel gauge goes right down to empty and I know I have 3 quarters of a tank. The check engine light then came on after I retightened the gas cap.
Service is closed for the long weekend (in Canada). Any thoughts - please help!

Sounds like a failed tank sending unit... But thats only a guess...

You more than likely will need a new fuel pump module (has the sending unit built into it). Some one the 08s have had issues with the contacts failing on the sending units. Should be covered under warranty.

Thanks for the feedback. It is in with the dealer today - I believe they are replacing the pump module. Great dealership. They gave me an SX4 for a loaner. Pretty fun to drive!

Default XL7 fuel gauge empty

Just had the exact same problem at 3500K, will take to dealer tomorrow, just wondering if the faulty module was a GM component?
