Section 8: Restraints
->8b: airbag system
->->Diagnostic information and procedures
->->->Passenger Presence System Rezeroing Procedure
1. Empty the front outboard passenger seat.
2. Verify that all SIR and PPS components, connectors, and connector position assurances (CPAs) are properly connected and mounted.
3. Install a scan tool.
4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
NOTE:
All SIR and PPS DTCs must be cleared before rezeroing the PPS. The presence of current or history DTCs will prevent the PPS from rezeroing and may set additional DTCs.
5. Use the scan tool in order to clear the SIR and PPS DTCs.
6. With a scan tool, request the PPS rezeroing procedure.
7. Initiate the PPS rezeroing procedure. The PPS will illuminate both PASSENGER AIR BAG ON and OFF indicators until the rezeroing procedure has been completed.
— When the rezeroing procedure has been successfully completed, the PPS will display the current system status.
— If the rezeroing procedure was unsuccessful, both PASSENGER AIR BAG ON and OFF indicators will alternate from no illumination to full illumination in 1 second intervals for 5 seconds. The PPS will treat an unsuccessful rezero attempt as a system fault.
8. If the rezeroing procedure was unsuccessful, repeat this procedure. Due to the communication status between the SDM and the PPS module, this procedure may have to be repeated until a successful rezero attempt has been achieved.
9. After the PPS has been successfully rezeroed, perform the [Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic Information].
need to make sure nothing is under or shoved in around the seat as well, as that can cause the sensors to misread weight.
There's a TSB about the passenger presence system as well:
Quote:
TSB No. TS 03 01108R
SUBJECT: AIRBAG LIGHT ON, WITH DTC B0081 SYMPTOM CODE “0F”
(PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM ERRATIC)
MODEL(S): XL7 (JC636)
YEAR: 2007~2008
CONDITION: Airbag light is ON. DTC stored is B0081 with a symptom code of “0F” set.
CAUSE: This condition may be caused by a low state of charge or a dead battery in the
vehicle. It may also appear after a module has been replaced and programmed or
reprogrammed.
CORRECTION: DO NOT REPLACE THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE (PPM)!
The code can be cleared using the following procedure. Once the code is cleared,
the airbag light will go OFF.
REVISION: Warranty Claim Information revised.
1. Key ON and engine OFF.
2. Use the Tech 2 with CANdi module and a PC to perform the PPSU Passenger Presence
System Unlocking found on the TIS2WEB Service Programming System (SPS).
3. Use the Tech 2 with CANdi module to perform the Preload Passenger Presence System
within the Module Setup of the Passenger Presence System (PPS).
4. After all procedures have been successfully completed, retrieve the DTCs from PPS and
clear all DTCs.
5. Verify that the airbag light is no longer illuminated.
This isn't as directly applicable unless there's a DTC set, but still something that can be tried to clear up the sensing system.
Don't take the representative too hard, they're typically not technicians, they're public relations people...lol.

Got this yesterday with my wife in the passenger seat, after stopping for ice cream it dissapeared. Good thing I had my phone, that way I can show the dealer.

I realize that this is likely a sensor issue and that I am by no means an expert on car airbag systems, but I have a Mazda 3 and it has two airbag lights... the Passenger side has a light in the center console near the Climate control that senses weight in the seat and turns the bag off depending on weight. Then I have a second Airbag light in the speedometer area. Not too long ago, the one in the speedometer area came on and would not go away. I tried clearing out the seats, leaving the car off for hours, etc. and still it wouldn't disappear. I took it into the my service garage and they diagnosed it to some sort of sensor or tension mechanism in my seatbelt system (Offhand I don't remember the correct term, but it was definately the seatbelt.)
Just mentioning it as a possibility... they replaced the thing and I haven't seen the light on since.
there are a whole lot of different items, sensors, modules, and wiring that can cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate, so without knowing the trouble code it would be fruitless to start guessing.

I had the same problem had to have the service manager, 250# plus guy, sit in it with light on, off take a picture and send it to suzuki corporate before they could work on it and then they took apart the seat bottom and found a short in the cushion, replaced it and that is good now they are in the process of replacing my timing chains at 22000 miles. Never again
My airbag system fixed after I made Shop Mgr sit in seat and show him.
I made the service manager take a ride with me after the typical could not duplicate problem. He sat in the seat it came on lifted himself off the seat and it went off and never came back on. They tried to do the recalibration trick no luck. He had one of the mechanics take a digital picture of him sitting in the seat with the air bag light on, "off" and sent it to Suzuki so they could approve looking at the problem. Guess the Service Manager's word and mine are no good. They got the approval and another appointment and 50 mile drive later they found a short in the seat bottom and replaced the seat bottom (the sensor), now it works like it did when it was new. Reminder I only have 22k miles on this. My wife drives it and hauls the kids the only time someone rides in the passenger side is when I drive every once and awhile and she sits there.
