Default gas cap loose.. problem

took my suzuki xl7 .. 22,000 kms.. the check engine light was on,, told me it was just a loose gas cap.. bull... they charge me $80.00 to clear the code.. have a nice day.. brought it back the next day.. code on again,, oh they will check it for leaks now... then they told me the purge canister has been hit by something.?? it is under the left rear wheel ... EXPOSED to being hit,.. then they want over $700.00 to fix as it is not a warranty problem.. even though they put it in a bad spot... I did nto fix it .. I will drive it with the light on.. too bad.. good new.. I have SUZUKI WARRANTY ..I told them I would never buy another one,, anyone want to buy it,, it is for sale in SASKATOON SASKATCHEWAN CANADA ,,$21,000 .. COME AND GET IT..

I would suggest you to find another dealer, I got the check engine light at around 8k miles, they said it was a evap leak (like a loose gas cap) but found out that it was a bad gas cap (leaking).
The dealer cleared the light and replaced the gas cap with a new one. They also did a fuel system leak test.

Also if the Check Engine light comes on when you leave the gas cap open it will shut off automatically a few days after you close the gas cap.

You have a bad dealer that just wants your money.

You can also contact Suzuki customer service directly, explain what happened, talk to them about your bad experience with the dealer and say that because of that you will never buy again.

I would contact Suzuki Canada if I were you. I can't imagine that there are a lot of dealers in Sask. Good luck!

We have a Suzuki Xl7 2008 8000 Km with the same problem. The message loose gas cap appears frequently. We had to stop, turn off the engine and tight the cap, that some times was not really loose. In two occasions the check engine lighted on. It's a warranty issue. The dealer clear the code at no charge. The vehicle is programmed for a change of a piece of the evap system covered by the warranty. Probably your XL7 have the same problem.
Good Luck

My 08 XL7 has had the check engine light come on twice already. I only have 3500 miles on it. I've tried to tighten the gas cap (didn't get a new one yet). The dealer did the diagnosis and told me there was an evap leak somewhere. They checked out but found nothing. So everything was reset again and they think the problem may be a faulty sensor. So if the light stays off - no problem of course but if it comes on again, they'll replace the sensor. All this was done with no cost to me.

So far, I'm pretty happy with the car except this light issue does bother me a bit.

I had the same problem with my '07 XL7. I had the loose fuel cap light come on as well as the check engine light. I tightened the fuel cap however the check engine light did not go off. I took it in to my dealer and was told a sensor was bad. It was fixed and have had no more issues. I did have to have the washer fluid pump replaced with only 3200 miles.

That happened to ours too, it started squirting too little fluid and all of the sudden it blew a fuse just like if it was clogged or straining itself. I was going to take it to the dealer but I disasembled it myself and found that the little filter mesh before the pump inlet was clogged with a slimy residue, I cleaned it and it's now working better than when it was new.
I think this is because mine was a leftover 07' that spent a lot of time at the dealer.
My winshield wipers were very dry too and they were replaced at no cost to me either.

Definitely try another dealer or contact Suzuki. There is no reason that shouldn't be handled under warranty.
