According to the Suzuki repair manual, it's 5.5 qts. US when replacing oil and filter.

Also be very careful tightening the drain plug-the torque spec is 18 ft/lbs. which is not very much more than hand tight (the 3.6 uses an aluminum oil pan). Overtightening it will strip the bolt or threads on the pan and then you're screwed.

Hey - does anyone know if there is a pdf copy of the repair manual available? I used to have one for my Suzuki TL1000 motorcycle. I love the Suzuki manuals as they are very thorough and logical.

Those must be for the Grand Vitara. Similar layout to the one I have for my bike. It walked me through an engine teardown and re-build.

SuzukiAuto.com says the oil pan capacity is 5.0 qts....it has a list of the capacities at the bottom of the page.

I even found that on pages 5-8 and 6-16, it specifies 5w30 synthetic oil but could not find the capacity.
I just used the fill and check the stick method and it was full with 5 qts.

The company that I work for has access to all the OEM's repair info. The Suzuki site is Suzuki Pit Stop. It looks like you can buy a paper or online version of the repair manual for any Suzuki.

Here's a screenshot from Suzuki's online repair manual.

FYI, I changed the oil in my wife's XL7 a few weeks ago, and 5.5 qts put it right on the top line on the dipstick.
