I was just wondering if anyone else has replaced any of their wheel bearings yet. I have a 2007 XL7 with 25000 km and the dealer tells me that the wheel bearing is going and needs to be replaced. Just wondering if its just my luck or if their is an issue with the quality of the bearings.
I dont think its an isolated incident Doug.I am a suzuki technician and I have had to replace 5 or so front bearing due to roaring noises .They were all very low mile vehicles as well.
Just wanted to report that I also had a hub bearing go bad at 40k miles. The car had a roaring/humming noise at 55mph that sounded like a mud tire. It was replaced under warranty so no biggie. I hope it is not a long term problem, but I guess I have 100k miles before I need to worry about it. I have heard that hitting a pothole or curb can cause a microscopic "ding" in the bearing which will make it noisy. Still seems awefully early to have a bearing failure.
This is a very common problem on the Equinox and Torrent on which the XL7 is based on. Hopefully there will be an updated or redesigned bearing that wont fail so early.
I haven't seen any bearing issues, but we haven't sold many of the new XL7s. I've replaced front struts and sway bar end links on a lot of them though.
I had to have a rear bearing replaced at 14,000 miles on a 2008 Saturn Vue... The dealer knew exactly what the problem was when I stopped in a described the noise as I thought it was tire noise after rotating the tires. They put it up on the car lift and spun the wheel and there was the noise.. Apparently a number of the bearings had water or moisture damaged which caused rust and then the lubrication problem.. at least that is what they were told.
That was only one of the minor reasons I got rid of it and purchased the XL7....
By the time I had 35Km on mine I had replaced all 4 wheel bearnings. I just found a seal leak in my transfer case 42Km. No other issues. I still love the Truck.
At 33,831 miles - Last Friday I had the Front Right Wheel Bearing replaced on my 2007 XL7 - after the Tech replaced it and took it back out for another test drive, he still heard the droning noise. Now the Right Rear wheel bearing needs to be replaced. And guess what? The part had to be special ordered. Additionally, the ABS sensor on the hub was damaged while the wheel bearing was being replaced and that too has been ordered. The Display Information Center now shows the following; SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, SERVICE STABILITY CTRL and ALL WHEEL DRIVE OFF. I love my new safety features.

If like the earlier solid axle type Zuk models, you have to destroy the press-fitted on ABS and bearing retainer rings, in order to change out the axle bearing.

i am hearing the same noise after i had the tires rotated. it sounds like a AT/mud tire but not very loud however i can still hear it and this was the 1st thing that came to my mind. i just do not think that the rear tires could make that noise by just being moved to the front. i was also thing that the tire could be bad but after reading this i just do not know any more. i do not much like the dealers i think they just tell you what you want to hear or half look at what you tell them. can say i trust them 100%
what are some thoughts on trying to get this fixed before it gets bad and making sure that the tech looks at it. i do know about cars but trying to get a tech to understand that and not just pass off as a customer that thinks he/she knows everything.
