I've been hooked on Suzuki since my first GTi at 18 years old. In the 20+ years since, I've rebuilt about 5 different engines. Excellent engineering and easy to work on.
Now that we need cargo space and possibly towing capacity, the next step is a GV. I had to put off my purchase for a while and now and just suddenly found they cancelled the V6 after 2011? What the Hell?
I'm sure the 2.4 is a fine engine from what little I've read, but my GV will be going off-road and potentially doing some towing.
In browsing forums I've seen that the 3.2 is more fuel efficient (more reliable?) than the 2.7 and more torquey? And I think the 3.2 was mated to a 5AT as well Vs. the 4 speed?
So is my only option going to be a 2010 model? I was hoping for a low-mile 2011 or 2012.
Also can anyone tell me if a diesel was ever offered in Canada? And if not, why? I would think that would be a great option for a GV in Canada. Great for offroad too, I'd think?
TY
First of all, the 3.2L V6 is not very fuel efficent. That's why its not sold anymore. A diesel has never been offered in the 2G GV in Canada. Probably because Suzuki doesn't have a diesel that would pass the stringent low-sulphur emission standards in NA and also consumers in NA hate diesels and won't buy it.
Wasn't the 3.2 a victim of Suzuki's divorce from GM?
So far as I know, the 2.7 was sold in North America ONLY with the 5-spd automatic. Outside the valve adjustment matter, the 2.7 seems to be a very durable and trouble-free engine. The valve adjustment matter has turned out to be a relatively minor thing.
I've seen some very informed opinions that its torque curve and general performance is very well suited to the vehicle. We certainly never feel a need for more power, and the relatively low gearing makes for quick acceleration (but costs mileage at high speeds).
I've never driven one with anything but the 2.7, but unless you are looking for sports-car power, you should find yourself happy with it. I think you'll be impressed at how the 2.7 handles off-roading. We do lots of that. The same characteristics would make it good for towing.

The 3.2 has better fuel economy than the 2.7, with more power, torque and better NVH. It is about 1 MPG lower than the 2.4 on the EPA rating, however in real world service there is virtually no difference (the manual transmission 2WD is an exception, it delivers maybe 2-3 MPG better real world highway but city is virtually the same).
The 3.2 used the GM HFV6 as its platform, but Suzuki totally re-engineered it for the 3.2 and it turned out to be a much better engine than the GM 3.6 IMHO. It was a Suzuki engine, not a GM engine in the end.
If you want a GV, my advice is to take your time and find a low-mileage 2010 3.2. They are out there and with the recent bankruptcy filing the prices will probably drop.

I had a 2006 2.7 GV and now have a 2009 GV 3.2 . I will tell you first hand that the 3.2 is way better on fuel that my 2006 was with a way better torque curve. Dont expect gas sipping fuel economy from a full time awd vehicle. Its not going to happen.

If I can add my 2 cents worth, I own a 2011 3.2ltr and today, have just come back from a trip along mostly freeway driving at 110klms. Though my GV sips a steady 10 - 11ltrs around town, can proudly vouch I was able to get it down to 8.2ltrs with the A/C pumping up and down hills, it's no Prius but I was happy to achieve the result.

The 2.7ltr certainly can't match that. More like 10 at 110kph.
