Default Factory Engine Oil

Hello All,

I'm about to do my first oil change at 10,000km (6,250miles) and the chief mechanic at the suzuki dealer told me than the suzuki engine J20A (2009 2.0 Liter Manual 4x4) came with full SYNTHETIC oil from factory OEM, does anyone know about this?

So i'm about to buy full synthetic oil, and would like to have some inputs about the REPSOL full synthetic engine motor oil, it does have a reasonable price versus castrol and quaker state.

Thanks all,

I doubt it. Suzuki sends most cars to us one liter low on oil to start with - I doubt they put synthetic in them either.

And I'd advise 5000km intervals. 10,000km is too much.

Suzuki Australia, and my handbook that came with the car recommends 15.000km between oil changes..

Why is 10.000km too much ?

I'm sure you have some good reasons, and I take you word very seriously, so please explain what benefits I would have in stepping up my oil change intervals.

I already run full synth Castrol

I had been using LIQUIMOLY fully synthetic 5w-40 and have it changed every 10000kms.

Main reasons going for LIQUIMOLY;
1) used to be using Shell but noticed engine quieter/smoother with Liquimoly
2) Shell only comes in 4ltr while Liquimoly in 5ltr
3) Comparatively cheaper per liter cost
4) ONLY use fully stnthetic on all my previous cars and had seen how they really protect the engines.

Default Factory Engine Oil

When I took my 2009 2.4L GV into my local (and only dealership here in Jamaica) for my first service they placed 20W50 motor oil in my engine and when I inquired why they used such a heavy in a brand new engine in addition to the fact that Suzuki service does not recommend such a heavy. They advised that they would contact Suzuki for their recommendation on the proper oil. After a couple they contacted me and informed me that Suzuki recommended the use of 15W40 motor oil (no mention was made about using synthetic oil) and I have been using that ever since and I change at 5000km intervals. I think it is a small price to pay by the way I now do all the service myself as I have lost all confidence in the dealership

dkguffe, changing oil every 5000km is an American tradition, and is also very good for oil producers, any service shops, etc. It was surprise for me when I first time heard about the 3500 mil interval here in USA. In Poland I had Fiat Brava 1.2 liter engine and there was 20 000 km oil change interval!

I didn't catch where you were from before. In Canada Suzuki fecommends 5000k intervals. I have seen a 2009 GV 2.4 completly slugged up at 50,000km due to having 3 oil changes it's whole life. And with ALL the timing chain problems Suzuki has had in the past why push your luck. They always last till they are out of warranty anyways.

Is this a diesel? 15W40 is a standard weight for diesel engine oil...I can't imagine a modern gasoline engine wanting 20W50, or even 15W40.

Oh, and BTW, I'd not worry about oil change intervals of 10K km...especially if you're using synthetic oil, which retains viscosity for a longer time. It gets dirty just as fast as regular oil, though, so...I dunno about 20K km intervals...

A diesel, I'd probably stick to 5K or 7.5K km intervals (that is, if I could get a diesel GV here...).

That is what I was told by the SUZUKI dealer here at the first 5k maintenance, that the oil is not to being replaced at 5k because those engines came with factory SYNTHETIC engine oil and the frequency of change is every 10k and not 5k.

Reason why I'm asking if someone know's SUZUKI putting factory SYNTHETIC engine oil, also i'm planning to get full synthetic repsol 5w40 which is the advised by the dealer itself, and the oil change interval is not selected by me, it was advised by the suzuki dealer itself also the oil grade.

In addition the chief mechanic told me that if i preffer i can bring my own oil since the suzuki dealer will sold the engine oil very expensive (synthetic), so i can bring my own oil and they will just replaced.

Engine oil change interval: 10k (suzuki dealer advise)
Engine oil type and grade: 5w40 Synthetic (since it came from factory, suzuki dealer advise too).
Engine oil brand: REPSOL, because it has a good price (My selection, since the dealer gave me this option so i wont be rob by them).

Thanks all for the replies.
