you need a SWR meter from somewhere. It sits between you CB and antenna and measures the reflected power coming back from the antenna in case its out of tune.
The tuning of your antenna depends on where / how you mount it, as power easily reflects from metal parts. That being said, you will also get the best tuning from actually putting it on metal... Ideal mounting of a CB antenna is middle of the roof, or on one side, so as to get as close to 1m2 of metal plate at the base of the antenna.
Alternatively, mounting on the bullbar, you may get the similar effect from the hood.
Beware that when adjusting the antenna if needed, SWR must be measured as you plan on using the antenna (dont stand near antenna while testing, as your body will also reflect power..) What I mean is, you need to put the SWR close to the transmitter, and sit inside the car with doors closed while measuring, then, if needed, turn off the transmitter, adjust antenna, and go back inside the car, and test again until best fit is reached.
An SWR meter should be a $20~30 tool, and is always handy to have at hand.
