Question Car starter with smartpass system '09 Grand Vitara

I have a 2009 Grand Vitara and I want to install an aftermarket car starter. I've been told by the installer in town that the only way to do so is to permanently mount my spare key in the vehicle. I don't like this idea for security purposes among other things. I've heard there is a way to install a car starter without sacrificing a key. Does anyone know anything about this and what would be needed to do the job without giving up a key?

Thanks

hi i have a 2009 grand vitara and i install remote starts for a living.i installed one in my unit and didn't have to give up a key. there is a kit made by fortin thats does the locks etc and has a module for the key. it is called the Can-sl-pl and you also have to get the tb-kia1 for the key chip. the onlt downfall is you have to bring the tb-kia1 into the dealer to program cause you need there scan tool to do it. now if they never done one before it is done the same way as they would program a extra key and my dealer did it in less then 30 min.hope this helps

Question

Thanks so much. One last question. The installation people I was dealing with are charging me an additional $60 to over-ride the computer and $50 for programming the door locks into the car starter which they say they have to do. With the kit from fortin and the tb-kia1 for the key are these charges still legit in your opinion? I thought the kit would take care of the override?

i dunno what they are talking about but that can-sl-pl does the door locks through the module. it is a can-bus module and the module connects to the vechiles data port and accesses the door lock through that. there is no need to override the computer for door locks. and if they are not a suzuki dealer i don't think they would have the scan tool to program the module they probably bring it to a dealer to get programmed for you. and i don't know if i would get them to install it doesn't sound like they know much

That's what I was thinking. I'm going to try to find someone a little more knowledgeable. Thanks for all your help!
