Default Needing an uncut key for the SmartPass Remote.....Please help!

I recently purchased a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara Luxury that didn't come with the SmartPass Key....well I found a used one for a good price ($50 instead of $200), but of course the regular key that pops in and out of the remote is already cut. Does anyone know where to get just the key only with that special top that will fit down into remote that is uncut?
...or is there a part# for just the key part only?
(I'm thinking the dealer can only sell the whole key with the remote unit)

1) You will need to reprogram the smartpass system to allow it to recognise the smartpass/keyless start unit.

2) You will also need to reprogram the immobilizer system to recognise the new key as the top part of the key contains a "code transmitting" chip.

Not too sure if you could do that with a "pre-owned" smartpass/key

Best option is........the dealer.

Ciao!

I just programed the SmartPass remote and it's working great!... but I was still wondering about getting a blank key purchased and cut some how....and then I was thinking about what you said about:
"2) You will also need to reprogram the immobilizer system to recognise the new key as the top part of the key contains a "code transmitting" chip."

.... so I took the key out of the remote and took it about 25 yards away from the car and remote and the keyless entry and start both worked fine...so I guess if I get a new blank key to go in the remote it should be fine.... I guess there might not be the "code transmitting chip" or whatever it is in the remotes for the 2006 models or something....what do you think? ...b/c I did a search also after your reply and didn't find anything about reprogramming the immobilizer system.....either/or, I guess it worked for the best!...and if I ever get a new blank key cut to go in that remote, I'll repost to help others out that may end up in my same situation.

I've posted quite a bit on this site about my adventures trying to get a third SmartPass to work with our '06 GV. Though it turned out the remote was not compatible and so could not be programmed no matter what, I did find out a lot about the system along the way. I think you're going to have to buy a new key from Suzuki. I don't know if they sell keys separate from the fob itself, but I do know the third one I bought came with an uncut key.

Nismo, I don't know where you are located, but I assume the USA as you have a Luxury version. The 2006 USA model doesn't use the Immobilizer System so you shouldn't have to worry about matching the key to the ECM.

The Immobilizer System uses keys that have an embedded transponder which communicates with the ECM and allows the fuel injectors to work and therefore the vehicle to start. If the transponder is not in the vehicle, it won't start.

Default Reviving the thread

I didn't locate any instructions for reprogramming the chipped key immobilizer. I have a new remote key, can reprogram it, any luck with the chip/immobilizer???
