Andri,

That's a very good idea. I thought you were in North America. Suzuki uses different HU around the world and I know the units used in Europe do not have the AUX function.

As long as you have the "CD/AUX" button on the front of the HU my cable should work.

PS are you getting an 06 or an 07 Grand Vitara?

Tim

It's a 06 I think, do you know the difference between the two?

At least the cars in the show room all have a PACR02 HU except the V6 car which I think has PACR01, it at least looks similar to the one in your manual. The dealer told me that the unit in my car supports cd magasine so it must have some solution for aux/ipod connections.

The PACR02/PACR01 are Panasonic radio's and while they do have a connection for a CD changer they don't have an 'AUX' button or the connection for Tim's cable.
A solution can be got from Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists who do one for the iPod and a different one for other MP3 players.

Default iPod integration for Grand Vitara

Today I managed to get some useful information from my Suzuki dealership in Tucson, AZ, on hooking up my iPod to the car stereo. Apparently Suzuki can supply an iPod interface kit, part number 990B0-55000. I've been told that this retails for $156 (+ tax). This kit became available on 14 Aug 2006. My dealer was not knowledgeable about using an iPod in a GV, and it took some prodding for the "GV specialist" to find this out. Now I've got to get their parts department to return my call ...

Expat,

Suzuki has been selling the iPod interface since Feb. 06 (in Canada at least). It is the Clarion EA1251b iPod® adaptor.
In Canada the PN is 99980-EA125 and it lists for $139.95 CDN. It plugs into the Clarion CeNet connector on the back of your radio.

I've seen them on ebay and Crutchfields for under $100.00, so if your dealer can't get it to you, do a search under the Clarion PN and you will get lots of hits..

It treats your iPod like it is a CD changer, so you have 6 "CD's" to listen to (playlists).. CD 1 is every song on the iPod in order from start to finish.. CD 2 through 6 are your playlists and the folders must be correctly named for the adapter to read them (it's explained in the EA1251E owners manual). You can not scan ahead through your playlists while a song is playing, it can only skip up or down a track as you do on a CD..

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks for the direction Tim. Have you installed the interface yourself? Is it a straightforward task or will I need to get it fitted?

Expat,

it is not as simple to install as my "AUX" adapter cable , but if you are handy with a screwdriver it's pretty straight forward.

The adapter plugs into the back of the stereo and is powered through the DIN cable supplied.

The hardest part is removing the trim from the left and right side of the center console.
- Do not stick a screwdriver between the dash and the trim, open the lower cubby hole lid and you will find an open gap between the console and the trim. You can lift the trim from this point without marring the edges.
-remove the 8 screws that hold the radio/heater assembly to the console and pull the assembly forward far enough to gain access to the back of the radio.
-Plug the supplied cable into the square DIN socket on the back of the stereo and run the cable over towards the glove box.
-reinstall the stereo/heater assembly and carefully pop the silver trim back into place. The trim has to be hooked in at the top before snapping it in down towards the shifter.
-Remove the glove box door, connect the DIN and iPod cables to the control box and find a spot to tie wrap the control box up under the dash. Make sure that the box and cable will not bind on the glovebox door.
-Run the iPod cable out the glovebox opening and reinstall the glovebox door.

Your done

The supplied cable is long enough to reach the back of the vehicle, so there will be lots of cable to tie up out of the way.
You can route the iPod cable into the cubby hole of the center console and keep the iPod in there if you want, or just leave it in the glovebox.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks for the info. My local dealer's parts department failed to call me back so I followed your advice and tracked down the part on eBay for less than $100 (which has saved me more than $70). Once it arrives I'll follow your fitting instructions ... and I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
