RamJaane,

There is a plastic damper attached to the right side of the glove box (a small arm comes out of a plastic piston), just pop the arm off the pivot. Here is a picture of the damper (my Aerio, but it's the same as the XL_7) :

You can then squeeze the sides of the glovebox to allow the stoppers around the edges of the dash. The glovebox will now flip all the way down. Lay on your back and look straight up into the glovebox opening towards the airbag and you will see the connector.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tim

I am also very interested in your cable. I sent you an email off of this thread to inquire price and capability.

Thanks,

Paul Dutton

Default Just installed Tim's cable - works great

I ordered the Aux cable from Tim and just finished installing it. The instructions were perfect and Tim had a few important notes/tips on how to remove the glovebox and position the plug.

Total install time was 5 minutes including testing the mp3 player.

Tim describes how to place the cable and it's really up to you as to where you decide to leave the cable. I decided to add an adhesive cable connector to the inside of the glove box and put the cable through it. I will be leaving the cable in the glove box but different people may choose to place the cable somewhere else. I considered putting it up through the blank plug where you find the heated seat switch but I decided on leaving it in the glove box to keep it out of sight.

The cable works fine and the build quality was great.

Thanks Tim.

Thumbs up

Sounds good. Mine shipped today! Thanks Tim!

I'm thinking of routing the cable into the storage cubby behind the shifter. Plenty of room to toss the ipod in there.

Same here. I'm going to make a docking station in the pocket behind the shifter for my Cowon A2 Mp3/Video player.

I got mine today in the mail.

I'm going to install over the weekend.

Thumbs up Aux cable in!

Alright, Tims Aux cable showed up last week, finally got around to installing it today. Very nicely made, simple to install. If routed into the glove box, it's probably a 5 min job.

I wanted it in the center console cubby, a little more involved.
I pulled the cubby out of the console, along with removing the glove box. I tend to be meticulous about these things, so I broke out some extra zip ties and the electrical tape. I cut the plug loose, flipped it over and re-taped it to the harness. I then plugged the cable in, and taped it to the harness too. Using several zip ties, I routed the cable up the side, and across up under the dash along some existing wires. I then fished the wire behind the side panel of the center console, and out through the hole for the cubby. I used one more zip tie at the back of the cubby hole.

The cubby itself looks to be set up for a light. There is a removable dome like piece on top, with a hole for a light bulb socket. This piece coveres a hole in the top of the box. It would be easy to just take the dome piece off and stash it, leaving the hole open to run the cable through. However, I chose to leave it in place, and slightly enlarge the hole on the dome piece enough to fit the stereo jack through. I have a clip type holder for my ipod nano which I affixed in the cubby with sticky backed velcro.

With the cubby shut, nothing is visible. With the cubby open, I can easily turn the ipod on and off, and hit next, without removing it from its mount. Nice.

I am very pleased with this setup. Thanks Tim!

Andri,

Check out this web page that shows the installation of my cable in a Grand Vitara.

*************-FAQ / How To - Audio / Video How-to's - How to install an auxiliary radio cord.

You will have to sign up to the web page in order to log in, but he has posted very detailed pictures.

If you order your cable now, it should arrive about the same time you get your new GV

Cheers,

Tim
