FYI,

As of last weekend I have the Bluetooth working using the Clarion BLT370 and a custom interface cable that plugs into the AUX socket on the back of the radio

The BLT370 has very good audio streaming and a telephone interrupt when a call is received. The stereo will even turn itself on for the duration of a Bluetooth call.

The only down side is you loose the external AUX input as the streaming function takes over that input. I have tried just putting a "Y" connector in line between the Bluetooth and an MP3 input.
This works, but your MP3 will continue to play overtop of a phone call if it comes in.

You press the "CD/AUX" button for the audio streaming input.
When a phone call comes in, the interrupt will automatically switch the radio over to "TELEPHONE" mode, no matter what source you are using (Radio, CD, or AUX streaming).

One thing I have noticed is that if you are using the AUX mode when a call comes in, the stereo will switch to either radio or CD after the call is finished, it does not return to AUX. you have to press the "CD/AUX" button again to continue the audio streaming.

The interface cable supplies the power for the BLT370 as well.

I have also tried the interface cable with the Motorola 605. The 605 also has very good audio streaming, plus the added advantage of having an external AUX input. The biggest downside is that it requires an external speaker for the telephone call... it does not have a low level RCA output for the telephone (??). I don't know what Motorola was thinking with that one.

The interface will work with the 2007-2009 SX4 and GV. I can also make an interface cable for the 2006 GV, but it will require an external power source for the BLT370.

Cheers,

Tim

Tim

The Motorola T605 DOES seem to have low level line ouputs for the phone. See manual here. Instructions say you don't need the speaker if you use the orange and blue wires.

I don't know what each of the wires in the 5-wire Suzuki harness are, but if you could make a cable to interface with that Suzuki harness, plus provide some connection for low-level phone input and muting input, then I'd bet you could make a cable for the T605 that would do everything, including a muted hard-wire aux input via the T605 input jack.

What do you think?

Robin,

I did not get any signal output on the orange and blue wires when I was testing it, but I think it might be because I had the external speaker plugged in at the same time. I'm going to do some more testing tomorrow night and see if I can get a line level phone signal.

If I can get a line level signal to work, I might be able to just piggy back it into the left AUX input as the 605 control unit automatically mutes both the AUX and streaming audio when a call comes in.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Tim

Tim If you can get it to work I will buy one. Do you think it would be posable to use a line output converter to bring the signal to low level output so you dont have to use a external speaker.

Scrubb,

The external speaker output is about 1 watt, so I think I could just run it through a capacitor to bring it down to line level (just above 1 volt output on max volume).

Robin,

I did get the line level output to work by piggy backing it into the AUX input, but the output level is so low you have to turn the volume way up to get a good level (it hardly has 300mv of output at max). This is why I did not think I had any output whan I first tested it

I think tapping the speaker output and just trimming it down a little is the best option. I'm going to test that out tomorrow.

I'll keep you posted,

Tim

Tim,

If you piggy backed the phone audio output to the car's AUX input, then I assume you would have to have the radio in "AUX" mode in order to hear the phone. Is that correct?

Robin,

When a phone call comes in, the mute signal automatically switches the radio into "Telephone" mode.

"Telephone" mode activates the AUX input automatically (as well as turning on the stereo if it is powered off for the duration of the call). In this mode, the AUX input is inabled, but you have no balance or tone controls.

The only down side is that Clarion has programmed the radio so that it will not go back to AUX mode after a call is received, you have to press the AUX button again. If you are listening to radio or CD, it returns back to that mode.

My Aerio has a Mitsubishi manufactured stereo and it returns back to AUX after a call, so it's definitely a Clarion thing.

Thumbs up

Received Tim's cable today for my 06 GV. I had it plugged in and routed to my GPS/XM Radio in less than two minutes. No tools needed. Works exactly as advertized. What a pleasure to add XM radio, digital books, mp3 music, and GPS directions to the car's stereo.

I realize there are instructions on the web for making up the cable yourself. But Tim's was professionally done with just the right connector to match the one in the Suzuki harness. That alone was worth the reasonable price Tim charges as I'd have never found one of those on my own.

Thanks, Tim.

The thing that I find curious is that Suzuki just didn't add an AUX input in the car in the first place, since the radio is already set up for it. Strange.

Default Aux Input

You can get them from the dealer, they are like $67 USD. I've seen them on eBay for under $30 USD, but there aren't any right now.

There is a white plug behind your glove box (you have to take out the glove box) that the Clarion/Suzuki AUX Audio Input connects to...

I actually had to explain this to my dealer, because they wanted to argue with me that I needed the iPod adapter for $150+, but no... I don't want that one. So i showed it to them on their own website... LOL.
