Default '02 XL7 brakelights; only top (3rd) brakelight works

My 2002 Suzuki XL7's left and right brake lights do not activate. Only the 3rd, top-middle brakelight does so.

I searched this issue on this forum and found this:

http://www.suzuki-forums.com/suzuki-...m-w-grand.html

She had almost the exact same issue.

I haven't done anything to it yet, should I go ahead and buy new tail lights?
(I hope not, I'm a broke college student D

After you've searched and found what caused the problem on other people's cars, go and examine yours and see if the same condition exists - or - if your wallet is overloaded - just replace the same parts they replaced and hope it solves your problem too.

To be honest - I wouldn't even have turned to the internet for help on this - it has to be either the bulbs or a bad connection somewhere near the back of the car - I understand that not everyone has the same level of experience, some need guidance, but the idea here should be to FIND the problem and FIX it, not swap parts until it goes away.

I have the same problem and it is not a faulty light or wiring as such as the lights illuminate at night but do not illuminate during the day when braking.

NRCB17 - the lights on these vehicles contain "multi filament" bulbs - the filament that illuminates at night is not the same filament that illuminates when you brake.

My comments in post #2 above also apply to you - as long as the third brakelight works, the problem has to be either the bulbs or a bad connection somewhere near the back of the car.
