Default noise and bad vibrating on brakeing

Hi,
I have anGrand Viatar V6 XL7 with ABS. automatic transmission first registerd December 2004.
I was driving today and when I went to brake, I felt a bad clanging and rattling feeling and noise through my foot on the foot brake. Hope that makes sence as hard to explainmg how it felt.
I stopped ok and got out and could see nothing. My husband has since tested it by doing an emergency brake and can find nothing wrong, all seems to work fine.
Low mileage vehicle for year and always serviced by dealer.
Could it be that the ABS just was stuck or some thing. It was raining.

I am reluctant to take it to my suzuki dealer for fear of being ripped off.
Any one got any ideas?

Quite likely the ABS was just "doing it's thing".

Many people are startled the first time their ABS "kicks off" - you can be driving the vehicle for years and never get into a situation where you brake hard enough or on a slick enough surface to trigger the ABS, which if you're on a rain slicked road will produce an extremely harsh (and noisy) vibration - what it is is the brake system "pulsing" the brake on one or more wheels several times a second.

Find a quiet (no traffic) street or perhaps an empty parking lot and take the truck upto maybe 20 mph and then stomp on the brake, do it both in the dry and in the wet - I'm willing to bet you can reproduce it the vibration in the wet - and like I say - that's just how ABS works.

FWIW - I've been through this exercise with my daughter - the first time her ABS scared the heck out of her - a hard stop on a wet surface.

Excellent answer, Fordem.
There was a post a while back from a guy who moved from the southern U.S. up north to snow country. While an experienced driver (I assume), he had never experienced the "A.B.S." thing. Personally, I've been driving since 1976, and could do without A.B.S, but for many people it's a lifesaver in treacherous conditions. It does scare the poop out of you the first time, though!
Cheers,
