Question XL7 2002 EGR Valve

Engine light is on, sensor says EGR Valve. Anyone ever cleaned before on thge 02 XL7? Exactly where is it, is ti hard to get to and how long should I plan for removal or replacement?

Ufff, better wait for engine to cool dowm, it is located behind the intake manifold to your right...clean it with with some TB cleaner

It's right here boxed in red (as viewed from the back of the engine). Tough to get to though..



Exactly what code # is coming up? EGR's on the V-6 rarely give problems is why I ask.

Code P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient is coming up, among some others such as P0116, P0131, P0133, P0151, P0153, P0051 and P0128.

The codes I am getting are P0401, P0116, P0131, P0133, P0151, P0153, P0051 and P0128

Holy crap!


"Clear" the codes w/a scan tool. Then drive until the light first comes on and scan again. Let's try and narrow this down.

Write them down as they pop up too...

If the codes you have are the ones you say then you may have a wiring problem. The wiring harness that runs along the back side of the intake on those years would rub through the harness and cause numoruos problems even stalling. There was a campaign on it ( "EN" ). hope that helps.

i think that campaign only appied to 03 models but doesn't hurt check. here it is..

Hey Max, i have codes P0455 and P0401 coming up. To clean the EGR valve do i need to remove the intake manifoild as well. Also the P0455, i changed the gas cap first and the codes came back. where should i look next. Where would i find the canister ? Is there a way to check the sensors first.
