Default Battery change.

Last time I disconnect the battery the computer lost its memory. When I started the car the RPM would not sustained at idle speed. I had to keep the car running for some time until it re gained the memory. My battery is dying and I need to replace it again. Is there a way to keep a memory while changing battery?
Thanks,

Sounds like you might have a sticking Idle Air Control Valve - or something like that? Even if the memory is lost you shouldn't have to do anything unusual to keep it running.

this is normal on a power loss to the ecm. Nothing to worry about.. There is no way that I know of to easily keep the ecm powered up on a battey change

So is the issue higher than normal revs - or is it stalling? It's not too clear from the original post and I assumed stalling?

My 01 does the same thing when the battery is disconnected. It stalls unless you feather the gas pedal. What I found is if you start it, then keep the RPM's just above stalling, after about 30 sec to 1 min, the computer take over and then controls the idle.

It shouldn't stall. I've recently had the battery disconnected off mine numerous times and not once did I have to use the throttle to stop it from stalling after reconnecting.

I'm not sure what sort of Idle Air Control Valve they use on these engines, but it sounds like they might clog up with age and need cleaning? (Mine has only done 55000km.)
