Default Another oil filter question.

Can anyone tell me the difference between Suzuki filters: 16510-85FA0 & 16510-85FR0. This is for a Japan Grand Escudo 2005 2.7 engine. The former filter was on it when it arrived from Japan. The second one I found locally. Same physical dimensions, the first has a wider flat seal, the second more of an O-Ring seal.

My parts catalog shows the first number is the filter for the "H series" engines (the 2.7 V6 is an H27), the second number is not found which may be because I have an old parts catalog.

A Google search shows the second number as being also sold for the H series engines, so it looks like they are interchangeable.

In addition to sizing and thread, the other and perhaps more important aspect of filter choice for these engines is the "anti-drain-back" valve - if you look through the "ring of holes" you should be able to see the valve, as long as that is there, I would not hesitate to use that filter.

Thank you Fordhem. I put the replacement on because my options were limited. Had to puncture the old filter to remove it and the very few parts places are an hour away and I most likely had the best/only option in hand. I really don't know what to look for regarding the back-check valve. There was a red material directly behind (maybe up against) the ring of holes. No chain rattle on startup and no leaks, so I'm feeling pretty good about this, but if it doesn't have the valve I would like to correct that next oil change.

As a side note: The procedure was every bit the PITA described on this forum. The foil deflector tip was very useful. Any other tips? I had two different filter wrenches and still had to resort to stabbing it with a screwdriver to loosen it because of the non-access.

That red ring behind the holes was the anti-drain back valve.

With regards removing the filter - there are a couple of different styles of wrench available - use google and see if you can find a "three jaw" one - I use a cup style, but, I find I have to put a shop towel in for it to properly grip the filter.
