stuff to do with a scope. Its a whole new words, 2 dimensions not 1 with a meter.
watch out with cheap scopes, (i like them!! ) portable is king on cars....
but use a 10:1 probe with it (some you have to ASK them, say i must have it!)

the back EMF spikes from any coil will blow up these scopes. (hobby scopes)
some are rated at 5vdc to 12vdc only, max input.
this is not good on cars. mine is 600v.rated. no probe.
this rating is when the input chip, blows up. and 12v is way too low
(hobby, is for working low voltage logic ,etc) fleabay cheap ones.

some DSO are rated for 50v, this is far better, taking 50 to 500v, 10:1.
the picoscope 2104 is 50v, so use 10:1 probe and it will run'
100mv range low becomes, 1000mv, or 1v. so will show 1v full scale
nice unit.with 8 ranges....!

the back EMF from A/c CLUTCH CAN hit, 400v. 100v is typ, with very good car battery
the battery acts as spike eater.
but inductance in he wires allows the spikes to go high.
like on INJECToRS

Back EMF is the coil of wire acting as a self generator
you charge the coil, a huge mag field builds and saturates the core.
then you cut the juice (and the field collapse, and As Faraday shows
the lines of force CUT the wire to induce huge voltages.
the speed and mag fieled strength of such, dictates the voltage.
kicked back, the more turns of wire in the coil the more kick.

f
is the magnetic properties for core changing as the pentle moves.

in fact those spikes have a profile, and you can even see the injector
postilion (pentile{sp}) move.
a very valuable trouble shooting aid, there is a like on my page for this story.
Imagine, you see it mess,up, you stop and send the injectors out
for cleaning, instead of going crazy or doing inj, balance tests.

what else can you do.
you can see of both sides of and 8v inector pulse
see if the fuel pump is about to die , makes hash on top of the 12vdc power
across pump power feed. see my duanes video page for that
he can even see one commutator segment in said pump bad. hash.

hash is the current surges from DC motors.
its normal but he shows you abnormal. (too much or drop outs)

you can also get current probe for this scope
and check, starter current profiles.
or spark wires. (you can see a misfiring spark plug,)
for fun her is a starter
here is voltage
http://www.fixkick.com/nostart-flow/...tage-scope.GIF

you can use the current probe (clamp)
to see the stater overload.
if the starter is shorted, the solenoid bounces back
but the current probe shows infinity current just before the bounce.

i have fluke meter that can graph this too, but is expensive.
current probes can be free.
just make your own.
wind turns of small wire around the battery cable and measure
across the coil you just made . you can buy coils ,pre made and in clamp form.

links, all very good.

yuk, nasty stuff in the screens.
im glad you got the back flush to work, its not easy to pull that off....very good job.

that is what i call barn disease. parked for 5 years, the fuel turns to
sludge.
watch out,it may be in all the lines too..and repeats,

thanks, im going to cross connect the 2 pages, so one can see what is different, later this month. (i even have page showing whats missing in oBD1. but it is buried deep.

and that picoscope has improved , im going to get one too.

check out the MS3 , megasquirt 3 system..it's evolving....(slow but sure)
has a GM ISC kit, too, nice,
not bad for low end, and great learning too. if ever..
