Default Radiator cooling fan

Anybody know where I can get an electric radiator cooling fan to fit a 2000 2.0 tracker? This is not the condenser fan but the main cooling fan.

Bill, I believe you'll have to "re-engineer" that yourself - the 2.0 engines GVs upto 2005shipped with a viscous coupled fan.

I've considered it, but never done anything more than push ideas around - primary reason being that my stock fan works fine, second reason is that I've never been able to find out what the CFM of the stock fan is, and the third reason is that good quality fans & controllers don't come cheap.

You have a bunch of different options - a single large 16" fan mounted to use the existing shroud and either run that full speed (relay switched) or variable speed (through a controller), or, two smaller fans side by side in a custom built shroud and then you can run those in series (low speed for low temp) or parallel (full speed for higher temp) - this last method is how Suzuki did it on the 2006+ GVs with the 2.0 engine - the fans are switched by the ECU, so whilst it may be possible to adapt the fans, you'll need to devise your own controls.

One thing I did find is that two smaller fans are capable of moving significantly more air than a single large one

Thanks fordem I think I'm going to mount a 16 inch fan in the existing shroud and get one of the stick through the radiator thermostats and hope for the best.

I'd highly recommend looking at the Spal range of fans. I've done a conversion on my 2004 XL-7 using their twin 11" fan assembly and it works better than the viscous fan. There's a long thread on it with pics on here somewhere (in the XL-7 section?) searching should bring it up.

Whatever you do, don't skimp on the fan or wiring

Don't forget to post pictures when you do it - might help me decide how to do mine - if I ever get a round toit.

Are you sure there's enough clearance for the 16" fan between the water pump/ drive belts and radiator? I think that was one of the reasons I went with the dual 11" - plus they covered more of the radiator and flowed more air.

The shroud is 20" in diameter and the water pump is mounted on the left side of the engine. The fan is mounted on a removable bracket so there's nothing between the engine and the radiator once the fan bearing and bracket are removed. There will be more than enough room to mount the electric fan to the existing shroud.

Bill has the 2.0 I4 engine (as do I) so probably more space than your XL-7 had - I believe your fan bolts direct to the water pump, whilst ours has it's own mount that can be removed.
