We recently sold our 2000 GV and bought a 2002 Tracker ZR2. We really liked the GV better, but this one is newer, with fewer miles, and with the Chevy emblems I can drive it to work if I want to (they don't allow foreign badged cars where I work).
I have two questions: Does anyone know where I can buy a used gas tank door for the Tracker? I have called many junk yards and have not been able to find one. I'll buy a new one from a dealer if that is the only resource, but they want $75 for a new one.
Also, the ZR2 has unfinished dark dull gray plastic trim around the wheel arches and down the sides (factory installed). Does anyone know of anything I can apply to them to improve the appearance?
Thanks for the tip on the fuel door. I'll try that resource.
Regarding the plastic trim. My GV had the same silver trim on the bottm as yours does, and that was painted. But on the Tracker the trim has a slightly textured surface and appears to be unfinished. I don't think it was ever painted. Not sure, though.
I'm curious about the discrimination against foreign badged cars where you work. What is their written policy about this? I find it totally absurd that any company would incorporate such an obviously ill-advised policy. Just what would be the logic behind it?

Yes what an asinine policy So you drive a "TRACKER" BFD
But it it says Chevrolet so it is Ok, beats that Japanese Suzuki all to heck and back EH?
Sorry I am just baffled by that logic.
Maybe you could by a Chrysler, or do they not allow them too

I've had a couple of them off (door and fender) for replacement / painting. They can be tricky to take off though with their "push pin" style serrated edged, nylon fasteners (that tend to break when removed) and additional double sticky tape tabs securing them in place.
Masking and painting while installed is an option, but a lot of work as well.

Painting these soft plastic parts is tricky. Special additives need to be added to the paint. Otherwise the dried paint will peel off as soon as "squeeze" these plastic parts just a little somehow and the result will be really ugly.
Meaning the painting should be left to the professionals.
The ZR2 came standard with black unpainted parts to provide better scratch resistance when 4 wheeling. It also came with larger wheels and AT tires for better off-road performance.
I guess it is just a personal taste but I like the black plastic parts better than painted ones. I am just no fan of painted bumpers. At least not on 4 wheelers where you occasionally "use" the bumpers.... ;-)
Sort subject related... What is the bottom plastic rocker panel cover/trim officially called? I need to cover up a rusty rocker panel, but can't seem to find anything? Thanks, YD
