As many of you know, I just had my water pump and timing chain replaced the other day. Everything has been fine, except last night while coming home from work, as I was slowing down coming into town, my "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Since it was after 1700, and I am in the poor house since the repairs the other day, I decided to run to Autozone for a code scan on it. Well here is what it said on the printout:
P0400
EGR System Fault
The ECmM has detected too little air flow on the EGR System
Probable Causes:
1- Blocked passage of EGR System
2- Failed EGR Valve
3- EGR Solenoid Faulty
4- Failed EGR Pressure sensor where applicable
5- Failed EGR position sensor where applicable
Now as I sit here this morning I wonder, could this be related to the repairs that were done recently, or what? Autozone wanted $315.00 for an EGR Valve, but I decided to come here and get some pointers from you all first. Let 'em Roll-
Did you check if the air sensor is pluged into the air intake? It is located on the air filter box and is a small round sensor that sticks into it.
Yes, I just went out and checked it. It is plugged into the air intake.
I am here at work and a guy here has a code reader also. We read it once again and it's says the same. We cleared the code and will go from there. Keep the pointers coming and any pics of location for EGR would be great. Max, where are you????
My first instinct (like yours) is that the recent water pump / chain work affected an EGR system hose / line or connector. This new prob is just too coincidental. A trip back to the shop would be my first recourse.
I have yet to have to deal specifically with the Zuk V-6 EGR, but if i recall it is in the worst location -- behind & underneath the throttle body / intake, right next to the firewall. Hard to see and get to, held on by 4 fasteners. I can better confirm this when I look at my spare engine at my shop for you if needed. My manuals are there as well.
EGR valves (in general) can be removed and cleaned of carbon deposits that block the rather small internal port access and the actuator portion can be cleaned / lubed to regain proper movement.
One other remote possibility to consider. You may have upset the ECU sensor / control system w/the recent work. I'd clear the codes with a scan tool, or disconnect the battery for a minute to re-set the computer. The ECU will also clear it's self IF the error is no longer present and after several driving cycles.
Mean while...I'm still thinking.

I too agree maybe the recent work did something or maybe a hose. So tomorrow I will be heading back to the shop with it. But if they say $$$$$, I'm gonna pass and tackle it myself on my day off and
I cleared the code yesterday, but after driving back into work this morning, the light came on and the P0400 code and Service light is back on. I just am in the poor house with this recent work, economy, cut back on hours at work, and I get laid off in the first of Decemeber for winter layoff (work on the Mississippi River). So money is getting thin for me right now. So anything I can do, would be a plus. I'll try resetting the computer later in the day today too. Can you send some pics Max, on the spare engine of where to look at as far as location of EGR, and EGR solenoid as I may clean/look at it Wed. when I'm off.
Well, here's where the combined EGR valve / solenoid resides. See boxed RED portion. This pic is taken from the BACK of the engine. I don't see how you can gain access to it without removing the throttle body and manifold though. You MAY be able to get your hand back there to check the plug / wiring (9 o'clock position as pictured) for being connected at least.
I still contend that the valve proper is probably fine, but it is controlled by a rather complex set of OTHER (disturbed?!?) inputs. I can fax you the several pages of troubleshooting the P0400 EGR system/wiring details from the SVS Manual if needed. PM me a fax number if you'd like them sent.

Fax recieved Max! Thanks again. Will let ya all know what I find out tonight (after checking everything is plugged in) or Wednesday when I dive deep into it.
