They look very similar to some of the interior trim fasteners. The worse part is (and I can see this happening) when the outer part free spins when you try to undo the philips head centre section. Getting two hands down through the engine bay to try and hold the outer section while undoing the centre won't be fun!
Getting to the bottom fan shroud anchoring points is a major PITA...especially for those of use with big paws. I managed to get the shroud on my 99 GV secured up top and bottom right (passenger side) with plastic zip ties. Just couldn't get to the driver's side. So far, so good. Salute to Max for having the patience to put fasteners in there...good work.
Hey Max, with all those miles, this was your first rodeo with the serpentine belt. I only have 1/2 of yours and Ive done this four times. Youre correct, its a PITA you almost have to be an octopus or have a good neighbor. I have neither, so I made a jig out of some .50" square stock with a V notch on bottom that goes over pulley and a U roll on top so my left arm rests on it while I tighten with my right. it worked really well.
I hear ya' Pit! Special belt install tools is right! I used a 18" long ratchet extension section for a leverage bar.
This was MY first belt replacement because I bought the vehicle used a little over two years and 28,000 miles ago from an employee of mine. I'm the 2nd owner in other words.

After seeing the pics Max posted I checked my radiator and low and behold found similar white crackling. It hasn't separated yet.. wonder how much longer she'll last!
Well, my stock plastic-tanked radiator only lasted 120K miles...so I'm partial to the metal tank radiators that I replaced mine with. Seems the metal tank would wear better, but only time will tell. The cooling fan on your Zuke is electric...how else would it be powered? Perhaps I don't understand your question?
Where did you pick up your metal radiator?
The fan behind the radiator is powered via belt from the engine.. figured if I replaced it with and electric fan that would be a little less power sap on the engine.
