Default New 2000 GV Lots of questions . . .

Hi All,

I've just purchased a 2000 Grand Vitara, automatic, 4wd, and am both excited and a little scared (that whole used car thing). 114,000, very clean, $4,400, hope I did OK.

I plan on having all the fluids changed and do regular upkeep. Unfortunately there are no maintainence records, so again, I hope this will be a good car.

I've been reading the forum and am a bit concerned about the whole timing chain issue. Is there any way t check this prior to failure?

This board is great and I hope to be a regular contributor.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Kate

Not really without a painful (and costly) "open and inspect".

If she SOUNDS alright with only MAYBE a little clattering at start up, not to worry! I've got 222,000 on my chains and no prob! Hint...3-4 K oil changes w/ 5W-30, Bud). Let's hope that the FIRST 114K miles were under good maintenance conditions.

DO change all of the fluids (engine and gear oils) and I'd suggest w/a synthetic gear oil as appropriate.

DO search the various thread for guidance. There is a ton of stuff to read. If you can't find what you are looking for, shout out!

And welcome aboard CholulaRed

Love my Suzuki, had it since new and now have 200,000 miles on it and nothing major has happened to it. Little things here and there, but so far 9 years and still going strong. I even towed a 3000lb boat for about 5 of those years.
