The halfshafts must be removed from the rear side of the hub assembly.

Doing this is relatively simple on the driver side as the halfshaft bolts to an axle shaft flange with three bolts. The passenger' side (or the right side in the UK) halfshaft has a slipjoint that fits into the differential sidegear. Because of this, you have to do more disassembly at the hub in order to remove the halfshaft.

Here is a direct link to the section of the '96 Tracker Factory Service Manual Project at Ack's FAQ that details the process:

An index to the entire '96 Tracker FSM can be found at:

Unfortunately, due to other more pressing (bathroom remodel) projects, I have not integrated all the sections into the main database, so this index is currently the best way to find stuff in the Tracker FSM...

Finally, here is an article I wrote describing how to diassemble the Halfshaft to replace the boots yourself:

The hardest part is making secure the metal straps that hold the new boots in place. If you have the tools to do it, go for it! Otherwise, buy a rebuilt set and turn in you old ones for the core charge.

I hope that this helps!
