some updates about my problems
in the end the clock was actually damaged (faulty diode, I know, kind of strange that it went damaged in steps
). the difficult part was to open the dashboard to get the clock out
and the "engine" noise was actually a bearing on the right wheel hub - this cost me $550 (300 the piece, the rest labour)
and lately the ABS and TCS lights are on a lot
no dull moments with this car
