The BELTS section will have the procedures for changing the cam (timing) belt, and the ENGINE section will have the procedures for removing the alternator.

Yes you can do your own computer diagnostic/error code reads, you will need to buy or borrow an OBD-II code reader, the connector is under the dash under the steering column, plug the cable in and then turn on the ignition after approx 5-6 seconds it will establish a link with the engine computer.
