That's correct it is NOT ABS, its RWAL , a horse of a different color.
This unit looks like an electric motor and is on the center section next to the pinion.
No it is not a motor is is a tone wheel decoder , magnetic sensor.
IT senses rear AXLE LOCKUP not wheels. see?
This is on my 94. (forget 97 , its NOT an 97 ABS)
On my 97, there is ABS, and it has electrical connections at the backing plates of the front brakes. On the 94 there are none. I was just curious about it.

REAR WHEEL ANTILOCK BRAKES.
ONLY HAS 1 SENSOR for rear wheels , and zip for front. thus the name.
