Got start with basic checks. Pull the spark plugs and inspect. Check the wires and remove the distributor cap and look inside the cap for corrosion, wear, crack, etc. Replace those parts in question.
If the car has over 120K, now would also be a good time to perform a compression test on all 3 cylinders. If the readings are at least 160 PSI, then the car internals are strong. If they are less, then you are in need of at least a top end rebuild. It's not hard to rebuild these little engines and anyone with some kind of mechanic skills can do this job at home.
