We did a roadtrip from northern South Carolina to Miami and back within a couple of months of buying it. Good mileage and no problems other than a check engine light because of the evap leak which the dealer fixed.
The cam phasing system of the engine doesn't like dirty oil, use synthetic oil and change it every 5k miles and you shoudn't have a problem.
If your's is AWD be on the lookout for a transfercase leak that may happen during extremely low temperatures (you are in NV, I know  ). Red oil in the driveway.
Other than that and a few rattles that no one else but me can hear (and I have already tracked down and fixed), the XL7 is a great vehicle at a great price.
