I have had problems with both components in the past in my 92, so I understand what you are in for. You can do a visual check of the board in the ECU to see if there are any blown caps or acid damage, but the best troubleshooting step I have found was to just swap out known good parts until it worked. The biggest pain was finding a good ignitor without paying for the vehicle all over again...
