I know my 79 F150 have same thing.
I think it look best if I remove carpet and paint with rhino so it be tough paint.
I am glad that I found that area before it gotten worst. I could lose geo tracker to scrap because not safe. For now I am work to keep geo tracker for few years or reach 200,000 miles then replace it.
